A while back1, I mentioned that I was being interviewed for the podcast A Conversation in Veterinary Pathology and today it finally came out! In this episode, I share my professional journey from vet school at Western University through a rotating internship at Virginia Tech, working in the ER, and a combined pathology residency/PhD at Auburn University, where I studied dogs with mammary tumors as a model for women with breast cancer.
I discuss my transition from academia to the private sector, running the digital cytology service CytoVetStat, co-founding Lacuna Diagnostics, and practicing as an independent consultant. The conversation covered my perspectives on AI in medicine as well as my writing here at All Science Great & Small. We spent a few minutes specifically talking about this Substack post on how to recognize pseudoscience and medical misinformation:
Finally, I touched on research collaborations with my wife (a veterinary criticalist), recommended several terrific medical fiction and non-fiction books, and even shared my favorite pathology word (you’ll have to listen to find out what it is!) I’ve included the Apple and Spotify links below for your convenience, but you can find it wherever you get your podcasts.
I hope you enjoy the conversation as much as I did 🤓

Please note: This interview was recorded in October 2023. While I didn’t hear any obviously dated comments that aged poorly, keep that in mind as you listen.
Sure will listen!!! Sounds wonderful!
