Reader Poll and New Feature Announcements
Tell me more about how you interact with my content, and learn about Notes and Chat
Hey everyone! I wanted to take a quick minute of your time to survey how you receive and interact with All Science Great & Small posts to help me improve the reading experience in the future. Everyone who subscribes gets new posts in their email (or in the Substack app if that setting is chosen). However, some features are more intuitively accessed (or only available) on the website or the mobile app. In addition, some longer posts may be truncated in email and redirect to the website, and this varies by your email provider. Please fill out the poll question below and add any extra context with a comment. Also feel free to use the comments to ask a technical question or make requests!
Website Updates
If you have only been reading posts on email, you might not have been to the homepage lately, or at all. It’s worth checking out for several reasons! There you can access past content grouped by topic (currently Science or Medicine), and all posts are found in Archive. You can also access the new features of Notes and Chat, more on that below…
Notes
Notes was recently introduced to Substack as a Twitter-like feature for sharing photos, articles, and short thoughts. I have been using this for small bursts of content like microscopic images I find beautiful and other Substack writers I’ve found insightful, but don’t want to turn into their own full post.
Chat/Threads
Today I’m announcing a brand new addition to my Substack publication: the All Science Great & Small subscriber chat. In the past few weeks I soft launched this by cross-posting the Open Discussion Friday threads, but it is capable of so much more!
This is a conversation space in the Substack app that I set up exclusively for my subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout. I’ll post short prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way, and you can jump into the discussion. Subscribers can also start their own threads to ask questions of me and other readers!
To join our chat, you’ll need to use the website and/or download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
